With recent media reports about Vitamin C, I am wondering
how you feel about Vitamin C and what is a recommended amount
to take daily?
The most recent study to hit the media was just that, a study.
It has not been published and it hasn't been peer reviewed or
evaluated by other medical professionals to check for flaws in
the way it was conducted. The weight of all published
scientific evidence suggests that vitamin C is beneficial for:
strengthening the heart, protecting gums, improving vision,
reducing joint pain, fighting cancer, relieving allergies,
building bones, fighting fatigue and depression, helping
control cholesterol levels, detoxifying environmental toxins,
boosting immune functions, regulating blood pressure,
. . . to name only a few benefits.
I would suggest the following amounts of Vitamin C:
For general nutrition 500-1,000mg daily
For cardiovascular concerns 1,000-3,000mg daily
For high cholesterol levels 1,000-5,000mg daily
If you are taking radiation or chemotherapy always check with
your Doctor before taking Vitamin C as it can interact with
some drugs.
